Parental/Family Reunification Therapy

Healing Relationships. Restoring Trust. Rebuilding Connection.

At Path of Compassion Family Therapy, we understand that family separation—whether due to divorce, conflict, CPS involvement, or misunderstanding—can leave deep emotional wounds for both parents and children.Our Parental/Famil Reunification Services are designed to support families in rebuilding safe, respectful, and loving relationships—whether the process is court-ordered or voluntarily initiated.

 What Is Reunification Therapy?

Reunification therapy provides a structured, compassionate space where parents and children can gradually restore trust and emotional connection after a period of estrangement or limited contact.Sessions focus on safety, emotional regulation, communication skills, and re-establishing healthy boundaries.

Our approach integrates:

  • Trauma-informed and attachment-based care

  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) for emotion regulation and distress tolerance

  • Compassion-focused and family systems therapy to nurture empathy and understanding

  • Psychoeducation to help parents and children navigate grief, anger, and fear with compassion

Who We Work With

We support families at any stage of the reunification process:

  • Court-mandated cases involving CPS or Family Court referrals

  • Voluntary reunification for families seeking healing outside the court system

  • Co-parenting and blended family transitions

  • Parent–teen relationship repair after conflict or alienation

All sessions are handled with professionalism, neutrality, and deep respect for each family’s story.

Our Compassionate Process

Every family is unique. Our process begins with a thorough intake assessment to understand each member’s needs and history, followed by individualized sessions:

  1. Individual sessions to provide emotional support and readiness.

  2. Parent and child sessions to rebuild trust safely.

  3. Joint family sessions to develop shared communication tools and agreements.

  4. Ongoing support to sustain progress and reduce relapse into old patterns.

When required, we provide written progress summaries for attorneys, case managers, or the court.

 What to Expect

Reunification therapy is a specialized process that requires patience, collaboration, and flexibility. Here’s what you can expect during your journey:

  • Initial Assessment: Each parent and child participate in separate intake sessions to ensure emotional readiness and safety.

  • Collaborative Goals: Together, we identify therapeutic goals based on the family’s history, the court’s guidance (if applicable), and each member’s emotional needs.

  • Session Frequency: Weekly or biweekly sessions are recommended, though frequency may adjust based on progress or court directives.

  • Progress Documentation: When cases are court-involved, therapists may be required to prepare progress letters, treatment summaries, or court attestations — each provided at an additional cost due to the time required for clinical writing and coordination.

  • Collateral Communication: Communication with attorneys, case managers, social workers, or evaluators (if authorized) may be necessary and billed per professional hour.

  • Referrals: When needed, clients may receive referrals for individual therapy, psychiatric medication evaluation, or higher levels of care to support the reunification process.

  • Court Appearance or Testimony: Should court presence be requested, this service incurs an additional hourly fee and must be arranged in advance.

Our goal is to ensure that each family receives the comprehensive care and documentation necessary to support healing while maintaining professional boundaries and ethical neutrality.

 Fees and Insurance

Parental reunification therapy requires extensive coordination, documentation, and neutral facilitation that go beyond the scope of standard psychotherapy. For this reason, reunification services are not covered by insurance and are considered a private-pay service.

Each family receives a customized treatment plan and estimated duration of services after the initial intake.A superbill can be provided for out-of-network reimbursement, but it is the client’s responsibility to confirm eligibility with their insurance provider.

Additional costs may apply for:

  • Progress reports or summaries

  • Letters or attestation for court or legal use

  • Communication with attorneys or social workers

  • Coordination of care and referrals

  • Court appearance or testimony (if required)
